Privacy policy

The short version

Trail & Tarp does not have accounts, does not sell anything directly, and does not collect personal information except when you deliberately send it to us through the contact form. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages get read, and affiliate links that tell retailers a visit came from us.

What we collect

• Contact form submissions. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you enter, so that we can reply. That is the only personal data we ask for anywhere on this site.
• Analytics data. Google Analytics 4 records pages viewed, approximate location (country or region level), device type, referring site, and events such as clicking an outbound buy link. This is used in aggregate to see which guides are useful.
• Standard server logs. Our hosting provider records requests, including IP address, for security and reliability purposes.

What we do not collect

• We have no accounts, logins or passwords.
• We do not take payment, so we never see card or banking details.
• We do not run a newsletter or mailing list at this time.
• We do not sell, rent or share personal data with anyone.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish returning visits from new ones. Retailers you click through to set their own cookies to attribute a purchase to us. We do not set advertising cookies of our own, and there are no third-party ad networks on this site.

You can block cookies in your browser settings, or use a browser extension to block analytics, and everything on this site will continue to work exactly as it does now.

Affiliate links

Commercial links go through a redirect on our own domain, which appends a tracking identifier and forwards you to the retailer. The retailer then knows the visit originated here, which is how commission is attributed. We do not receive any personal information about your purchase — only aggregate reporting about how many purchases followed clicks from this site. Full detail at how this site is funded.

Third parties

• Google Analytics for traffic measurement.
• Amazon Associates and other retailer affiliate programs for link attribution.
• Our hosting provider, which serves the site and keeps request logs.
• Microsoft 365, which delivers contact form messages to our inbox.

Each of these operates under its own privacy policy.

Data retention

Contact form emails are kept in our mailbox for as long as needed to handle the conversation and any follow-up, then deleted. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics settings. We do not maintain any other database of visitors.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its processing. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email exchange you started. Write to info@trailandtarp.com and we will action it.

Children

This site is written for adults buying camping equipment and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page. This is the current version.
