How this site is funded

Affiliate commission, and nothing else. Here is exactly how that works, what it does not affect, and what it costs you.

The short version

Trail & Tarp is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

When you click a buy button here and then purchase something, the retailer may pay us a small commission. You pay exactly the same price. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your wallet, and it is the only way this site makes any money.

How the links work

Every commercial link on this site goes through a redirect at /go/, which adds the tracking identifier and sends you on to the retailer. That is why the destination address looks the way it does. Links are marked rel="sponsored nofollow" as Google's policies require, and open in a new tab.

Where a live price is shown, it comes from an automated feed with a date stamp, and if the data is more than 48 hours old the number disappears and the button simply reads “check price”. We never type a price into a page. Prices at the retailer change constantly and nothing here is a price quote.

Which programs we are actually in

At launch, one: Amazon. Some brands and retailers we mention run affiliate programs we have not joined, and we do not build tracking links for programs we are not part of. Those links are ordinary links that earn us nothing.

What commission does not affect

Why we disclose above the links, not just here

The FTC asks that material connections be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation, not buried on a page nobody visits. So every commercial page on this site carries a one-line disclosure directly above its first affiliate link, and every buy button is labeled #ad with a link back to this page.
